How many places in the world can claim to offer the joy of 320 sunny days? The Cycling Paradise Cyprus sure can – which is why it’s perfect for a holiday involving outdoor sports. If you compare the climate data of the autumn, winter and spring months in Cyprus with those of e.g. Majorca, you will quickly find that there’s simply less rainfall, that the sun shines longer and that the temperatures are higher – the risk of a cycling holiday spoiled by rain is close to zero.
The southerly location offers higher temperatures than the northern Mediterranean area and many a time there are warm desert winds arriving from the Levantine coast. The Mediterranean Sea around Cyprus has the highest water temperatures of the entire region. In February they already reach around 17 °C. While Majorca bears the potential of snowfall as late as in April, Cypriots are already long used to light clothing by that time.
Cyprus is the third largest island of the Mediterranean and, with the exception of the three big cities, sparsely populated. The pleasures of riding on quiet roads leading through olive, lemon and orange groves are taking turns with pure downhill thrills. It is rather common that you will not come across any cars for an hour when biking in the hinterlands. In the cycling seasons spring/autumn and “winter,” the roads belong to cyclists almost exclusively, since Cyprus is fortunately still spared mass tourism in these seasons.
An excellent road network with many beautiful side roads makes the heart of any racing cyclist leap. But also mountain bikers will find wonderful trails and routes in the inland mountains as well as at the coasts.
Flat routes, hilly or contoured terrain – you have all the possibilities. Our cycling area offers you the opportunity to grind kilometres along flat coastlines without any considerable gradients, but also the possibilities for undisturbed and extensive endurance training on well-kept, wavy little roads leading through luscious green fields and meadows. In the Troodos Mountains, climbers will find mile long ascents and the good roads allow for alpine bike races.
You can find an overview of all cycling areas on our Cyprus Cycle Map.
Good roads, low traffic in the hinterlands and the unique climatic conditions of the Mediterranean make Cyprus the perfect racing bike destination.
But Cyprus also holds some surprises for mountain bikers. Be it steep rises, technical descents, flowy trails or pleasant coastal roads – Cyprus caters to all tastes.
Cyprus is well-suited towards specialized cycling training. However, the many paths surrounding the Zypernbike biking station and some of our Accomendations offer plenty of opportunity for running as well. Moreover, just in front of the hotel, you can swim under competition conditions.
